The Michigan Downtown Association announced the winners of the 5th Annual MDA Awards on Thursday, November 4, during our Annual Conference held at Detroit PAL in Detroit, MI.

There were eight award categories. Nominees for categories 1 through 6 must be MDA members and/or from MDA member communities. There is a complete list of MDA members on our web site.
  1. Best Downtown Economic Development Project Under 1 Million Dollars: Sparta Town Square Small Business Incubator Program, Sparta Downtown Development Authority
  2. Best Downtown Economic Development Project Over 1 Million Dollars: Hotel Earl, Paul Silva, Downtown Charlevoix
  3. Best Promotions & Marketing Project/Program: Small Town Under 10,000 Population: N/A
  4. Best Promotions & Marketing Project/Program: Mid-size and Large Communities Over 10,000 Population: Dearborn Restaurant Week PickUp Pledge
    East & West Dearborn Downtown Development Authorities
  5. Best Placemaking Project: Two Recipients:  Fresh Waves, The Downtown Mural Project, Alpena Downtown Development Authority and Howell Summit Garden, Downtown Howell
  6. The People’s Choice Award! Each project submitted from categories 1-5 will be featured on the MDA Facebook page, Michigan Downtowns, through September 21, 2021.  The project with the most ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ combined will receive the People’s Choice Award. Howell Summit Garden,Downtown Howell
  7. MDA Volunteer of the Year (a volunteer activity for MDA, not in a community)- James Alt, Lapeer Main Street/DDA
